Spanish wine exports fall by almost ten percent

2009 was not a good year for Spanish wine exports, according to figures from the Spanish Wine Federation FEV (Federación Española del Vino). French wine exports lowest in ten years time

Last year French wine exports fell by almost twenty percent to 5.5 billion euros. This is the lowest level in ten years time. According to official figures from the French export agency Ubifrance the French in 2009 exported 12.5 million hectoliters of wine, 8.7 percent less than in 2008. A court in the southern French city of Carcassonne sentenced twelve wine growers from the Languedoc to suspended prison terms and effective fines. The Belgian distributor of wines and spirits A & F Mampaey Wines & Sprits, founded in 1920, was bought by the Dutch Distillery Dirkzwager. Mampaey is one of the Belgian market leaders and Royal Warrant Holder. Record prices for wine at Hongkong auction

A wine auction organized by Sotheby in Hong Kong on Saturday exceeded all expectations, reports Bloomberg. Rich wine lovers bid for ten hours on 800 lots and eventually spent HK$52.9 million (4.81 million euros), against Sotheby’s estimate of HK$40 million.
