2007 Henri Germain Meursault 1er Cru Charmes – France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru (11/27/2010) Citrus, flowers, minerals… serious backbone of citrus-like acidity, a hint of toast, the fruit is plenty, fresh and pure; the wine is balanced, but still quite young, wait a few more years. 2007 Sottimano Barbaresco Cottá – Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco (11/14/2010) Intense aromas and flavours of fresh strawberries, other red fruits, cherry stones, exotic spices, and minerals, refreshed by cherry-like acidity and supported by grainy, soft, sweet tannins. 2009 Produttori del Barbaresco Langhe Nebbiolo – Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Langhe DOC (11/12/2010) Clean, savory strawberry and cherry fruit intermingled with cherry stones and a hint of kirsch on the engaging nose. Bright red fruit, cherry-like acidity, cherry stones and a hint of kirsch on the tasty palate. Very good qpr. Even better on the second day. (89 points)
2005 Azienda Agricola Elvio Cogno Barolo Ravera – Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo (11/6/2010) Restrained, brooding nose of black and red fruits, with just a hint of exotic spices and aromatic herbs. Red fruits, sweet, soft tannins, cherry-like acidity and exotic spices on the very balanced palate. Needs about five years I think. (91 points)
2007 Château Pesquié Côtes du Ventoux Quintessence – France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Ventoux (10/21/2010) Cocoa, orange peel, kirsch, vanilla and ripe black fruit on the aromatic nose. 2009 Château Pesquié Côtes du Ventoux Terrasses – France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Ventoux (10/20/2010) Red and black berries, violets, sweet spices, kirsch, and cherry-like acidity in a delicious and balanced package. Remained fresh on the second day and even gained some weight. Very good qpr. (88 pts.)
2006 Ca’ Viola Langhe Bric du Luv – Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Langhe DOC (9/23/2010) Kirsch, violets, exotic spices and earth on the nose. Kirsch, ripe red and black fruit, violets, exotic spices, cinchona bark and serious acidity on the broad, still primary palate. Delicious already, but will improve a lot with additional bottle age.
