2007 Bodegas Rafael Palacios Valdeorras As Sortes

2007 Bodegas Rafael Palacios Valdeorras As Sortes – Spain, Galicia, Valdeorras (8/18/2009)
Toast, minerals, citrus fruit, lemon peel and ripe white fruit in a balanced, long and complex package. A serious wine; reminds one of an exotic Grand Cru Chablis or even more a good, but modern styled Corton Charlemagne, albeit with a twist. (I also tasted a somewhat simpler, but good Godello-based white from another area and there certainly were family resemblances, although the As Sortes clearly is in its own class.) Needs ample breathing and Burgundy glasses to appreciate in full. Drank this two times in the space of a few days with consistent notes. (93 pts.)
