The organization of Flemish Professional Sommeliers elected the sparkling wine Schorpion Zwart Brut Bruisend (‘Schorpion Black Brut Sparkling’) as best Belgian wine for 2009. The wine is made by resident of Hasselt, Limburg Wilfried Schorpion (44) with grapes from a vineyard of two hectares in Vliermaal (Kortessem). Catalaanse Cava-gigant. Eigenaar van “Bach” en Raimat. Bezit wijnmakerijen in Californië en Argentinië. Maakt zijn Cava’s voornamelijk van Macabeo, Parellada en Xarel-lo. Recent werd ook Chardonnay geïntroduceerd. Codorniu is een familiebedrijf waarvan de eerste sporen teruggaan tot 1551. Josep Raventós was het die in 1872 de eerste Spaanse “Champagne” creëerde.
