2010 Paul Thomas Sancerre Chavignol Grande Reserve de Notre Vignoble Les Comtesses – France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Sancerre (10/8/2011) Flowers, chalk, aromatic herbs and ripe white fruit on the nose. Lots of spicy white fruit on the palate, refreshed by serious acidity and intermingled with chalky minerality. (90 points)
2007 Marcarini Barolo Brunate – Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo (11/16/2011) Strawberries, rose petals, a hint of exotic spices and licorice. Restrained and elegant, with great balance, not giving everything at the moment… best on the second day but at the end of the evening closing down. Wait a few years. (91 points)
2010 Produttori del Barbaresco Langhe Nebbiolo – Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Langhe DOC (11/10/2011) Balanced, strawberries, rose petals, spices… even better on the second day. Baby Barbaresco. Probably a bit better than the already good 2009. (90 points)

2004 Bodegas Julián Chivite Navarra Reserva Coleccion 125 – Spain, Navarra (8/3/2011) Barnyardy nose with hints of exotic spices. Ripe black fruit on the palate, refreshed by serious acidity; the wood is just slightly too much. Not my style, but certainly a good wine. Better on the second day. (90 points)
2008 Bodegas Mauro Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León Mauro – Spain, Castilla y León, Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León (8/3/2011) Ripe black fruits, refreshing and balancing acidity, in a suave and balanced package, where all the elements are just right … a wine to drink. 2009 Acústic Cellar Montsant Acústic – Spain, Catalunya, Tarragona, Montsant (8/1/2011) Red and dark fruits and a whiff of cherry liqueur on the slightly alcoholic nose. Spicy red fruits and cherry-like acidity on the palate. Nice, but not overly complex. (88 points)
2008 Pago de los Capellanes Ribera del Duero Crianza – Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero (7/31/2011) Nice fruit, but a bit watery and light, with a slightly bitter, unpleasant aftertaste, and a mid-palate hole that detracts from the nice fruitiness. Certainly not as good as in better years. (87 points)
2005 Bodegas Roda Rioja Roda Reserva – Spain, La Rioja, Rioja (7/30/2011) A whiff of the barnyard on the spicy, dark fruited nose. On the palate sweet dark fruits, sweet spices, refreshing acidity and a hint of dark chocolate. Quite balanced, a pleasure to drink. (91 points)
