Webshop reveals wine margins Dutch top restaurants

Sterwijnenthuis.nl is a new Dutch online shop where you can buy the wines that feature on the wine lists of the best Dutch restaurants. That is not to the liking of the Dutch Alliance Gastronomique. Dutch consumers can now see exactly how much margin their favourite restaurant takes on wine. The shop is an initiative of the Dutch internet entrepreneur Gijs den Hollander. Wine vandalism in Spain

In Spain, winemakers are increasingly the victims of senseless acts of vandalism. Last week on Monday unknowns destroyed a section of wines at the winery of Terroir Al Limit in the small village of Torroja del Priorat, reports JancisRobinsom.com. Three years ago, in the same region, a set of vines were set on fire by unknown vandals. And this week, 150 old vines were torn out by vandals in a vineyard in Ribeira Sacra in Galicia. So far, no perpetrators have been arrested. Nor is it clear > Read more …

Early harvest in Belgium

Because of the continuing good weather it seems Belgian grapes will be picked several weeks earlier than usual, reports the Belga news agency. Restaurant Hamdorff in Laren is the first Dutch restaurant with a wine list that you can scan with your smartphone. Each wine on the list has a so-called QR-code. If you scan this code with your smartphone or tablet, a webpage is opened where you’ll find all the information on the wine. A QR-Code or Quick Response code is a two-dimensional barcode that originally was developed to help identify car parts. Piper-Heidsieck and Charles Heidsieck sold to clothing holding

According to Decanter, the French drinks group Remy Contreau has sold Champagnes Piper-Heidsieck and Charles Heidsieck for 400 million euros to the Société Européenne de Participations Industrielles (EPI), the holding of the French family Descours, which is mainly active in the clothing sector.
