2008 Cycles Gladiator Belle Epoque – USA, California, Central Coast (4/14/2012) Ripe, fairly sweet black fruits, vanilla, coffee, alcohol. Do not drink too warm. Good quaffer if you like them on the sweet side. Not for me though. (86 points)
The wine cellar of the defunct Belgian 2-star Michelin restaurant ‘t Oud Konijntje in Waregem, province of Oost-Vlaanderen, will be auctioned off on 12 May in the Salons Leieburcht in Sint-Ellois-Vijve. Chateau Latour, the famous first growth, told wine merchants today in Bordeaux that 2011 will be the last vintage it sells as futures, or en primeur. Only bottled wines will be sold from the winery, and vintages will be released when the chateau believes they are ready to drink. Read more on James Suckling’s blog.
2009 Pierre Damoy Bourgogne – France, Burgundy, Bourgogne (3/1/2012) Lots of vibrant red fruits, with a backbone of forest floor, licorice and aromatic herbs. More integrated on the second day. Very good, even at the price level. (89 points)
2009 Pecchenino Dolcetto di Dogliani Siri D’Jermu – Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Dolcetto di Dogliani (3/9/2012) Black and red berries (raspberries, blackberries, sour cherries), exotic spices, cherry-like acidity… still young, only opened up on the second day. Much improved since last tasted. (90 points)
