2006 Finca Sandoval Manchuela

2006 Finca Sandoval Manchuela – Spain, Castilla-La Mancha, Manchuela (1/29/2009)
Black berries, ripe black prunes, stable aromas and aromatic herbs on the expressive nose. Masses of black fruit on the palate, intermingled with herbs, black coffee, refreshing acidity and a serious dollop of oak. Young and not yet completely balanced, but promising, although this seems somewhat lighter than in the previous vintage (not necessarily a bad thing). This became more balanced and restrained with some air and was at its best on the third day (with daily rests in the fridge). The fruit (sour cherries, blackberries) came to the forefront, supported by exotic spices and citrus peel. Upped the score accordingly. Probably best to leave this one alone for a few years. (92 pts.)
