2003 Château Les Grands Marechaux – France, Bordeaux, Côtes de Blaye (5/6/2006)
Wide open, modern nose with ripe black fruit and its syrup, chocolate, coffee and orange peel. On the palate almost sweet black fruit (but not too sweet), black coffee, orange peel, still biting tannins, and enough acidity to keep this balanced. Very good at its price level. I put half of the bottle away in the fridge for three days. Amazingly, this had gained in complexity and balance after three days (there was even some typical Bordeaux graffite on the nose and palate), so it’ll probably also age on the near term. Based on this second taste, I upped my score to 92. Even beter qpr than I thought. (92 pts.)
Heel open, moderne neus met rijp zwart fruit, fruitsiroop, chocolade, koffie en sinaasschil. In de mond bijna zoet – maar niet té zoet – zwart fruit, zwarte koffie, sinaasschil, nog bijtende tannines en genoeg aciditeit om de balans te bewaren. Zeer goed op dit prijsniveau. Ik zette de helft van de fles drie dagen in de ijskast. Tot mijn verrassing won deze wijn nog aan complexiteit en balans; er waren nu zelfs typische Bordeaux potloodaroma’s aanwezig. Kan dus waarschijnlijk nog enkele jaren verbeteren in de fles. Zeer goede prijskwaliteitverhouding. Verkrijgbaar bij Colruyt Klassewijnen voor 11,25 euro.
