2004 Domaine Charvin Châteauneuf-du-Pape – France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (2/21/2008) Somewhat restrained nose with ripe red fruit (strawberry, cherry) and a hint of kirsch; a slight stemmy feel. 2004 Château Mont-Redon Châteauneuf-du-Pape – France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (1/18/2008) The nose is still closed, with a hint of red fruit and kirsch. The palate is more open, with delicious red fruit, kirsch, a hint of coffee and vanilla and a spicy backbone. Good balance. Also good qpr. (90 pts.)
2005 Clos Saint-Michel Châteauneuf-du-Pape – France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (1/27/2008) Red and black berries, fruit coulis and a hint of liquorice and black coffee on the nose. All this returns on the balanced palate, supported by meat, metal and a hint of kirsch. Good qpr. (89 pts.)
2005 Clos Saint-Michel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée – France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (1/28/2008) Black cherries, kirsch, black coffee and spices on the nose; the palate adds refreshing acidity, a hint of spicy wood, some tabacco and a good finish.
