Wine fraude in Burgundy

Last year, a “well-known” vigneron from Burgundy let 2500 hectoliters of Burgundy-wine for a total value of 2.135 million euros disappear from his accounts, according to the customs authorities of Burgundy. The fraud was discovered on May 18 last year at a customs inspection of the accounts of the vigneron. The regional Director of customs reported the fraud to the French Ministry of Justice and demands the prosecution of the vigneron. “This is a significant quantity of wine and the fraud was done by someone very well known from whom we expect a good example,” added the Director. The name of the domain or the wine maker were not released.
