2003 Hamilton Russell Pinot Noir

2003 Hamilton Russell Pinot NoirSouth Africa, Walker Bay (13/08/2008)

This is a John Platter 5 star wine and so, if this critic has any notion of what good wine adds up to, this is the best South Africa has to offer. Well, I hope, and in fact I’m pretty sure, that South Africa has better things to offer because this wine is completely uninteresting. The oak is quite marked and, as someone else said, it lacks the fruit of New World Pinot and the complexity and terroir of Burgundy. (85 pts.)
