2004 Domaine Charvin Châteauneuf-du-Pape

2004 Domaine Charvin Châteauneuf-du-Pape – France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (2/21/2008)
Somewhat restrained nose with ripe red fruit (strawberry, cherry) and a hint of kirsch; a slight stemmy feel. Very balanced palate, with sweet Grenache fruit (red berries etc.), some chocolate, good acidity and a fair dose of kirsch liqueur. Good after-taste. Very drinkable, but the very slight green touch might be off putting to some. This is probably beginning to close down and should be left alone for about 5 to 6 years, if my experience with Charvin is repeated. (90 pts.)
