Château Fombrauge 2001

2001 Château Fombrauge – France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru (2/28/2005)
Spice, bell pepper, black coffee and black jammy fruit on the nose. Rather tannic on the palate, but the tannins are somewhat sweetish and supported by a nice layer of black, spicy fruit. Additional tones of black coffee and liquorice. A balanced wine in need of near term cellaring. The slightly astringent aftertaste is somewhat worrying. Might merit a slightly higer score if the astringent element integrates. Good qpr though for a St-Emilion Grand Cru (about 20 euro). The second day this had evolved nicely and had become much more fruit driven. The astringent touch of the day before had dissapeared. So I upped the points somewhat. Give it time.(89 pts.)
