This started out as a fairly typical sweetish fruitish like 1998 Barolo, but it steadily gained weight and complexity during the course of the evening and turned out to be a real beauty, with lots of red and black fruits, jam, kirsch, tar, liquorice… An intense Barolo in an opulent style, but with all the different elements just in perfect balance. My score is probably conservative. It is very enjoyable now if you give it some time to develop after opening the bottle. I do not know if this should be aged much further, as I have no previous experience with this cru. Certainly it is very good at the moment. (93 pts.)
